How long have you been painting for?
I was that child who drew flowers in the margins of schoolbooks and had very fancy curly writing! Art was by far my favourite subject which led to a wonderful creative career in textiles, product development and eventually creating artworks, which is now my full-time practice and has been for 17 years.
Can you give us an idea of what a day in the life of your art practice looks like?
I rent a studio in a large warehouse which is a shared Artspace, so I get to chat and be inspired by other artists and a typical day in my art practice starts around 9am most mornings with a delicious cup of coffee in hand!
I love my art space; it’s designed to facilitate both productivity and creativity. It’s thoughtfully divided into two zones, my creative and messy painting space and then my textile zone which serves as my sanctuary for planning and contemplation.
I get started by cleaning my water and workspace as it’s often still a mess from the previous day! Once that’s organised, I’ll set up my easel with a fresh canvas or work on existing artwork from the day before. I like to work on one art piece at a time, multitasking doesn’t work creatively for me, sometimes I wish it did then I could get more done in a day!
I will then spend a few hours painting and making social media content and leave to do the school pick up around 2:45pm so that basically is my time spent in the studio. Most administrative work I do from home in the evening.
What are the most exciting things that have happened in your art career so far?
I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my work in excellent galleries and retail spaces and participated in multiple groups shows with some of Australia’s best emerging and established artist’s. My sales reach across Australia and Internationally and I’ve had some fantastic collaborations which has allowed me to connect with other creatives and bring fresh perspectives to my work with even more exciting ones on the horizon!
I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to have created a flourishing art business, allowing me to set my own pace and maintain creative autonomy. I recently launched my own collection of homewares and fashion pieces which has expanded my audience and offers new ways for people to incorporate my art into their lives.
What has inspired this Mini Solo collection?
I’ve looked over some of my most popular small works and created this collection with that in mind. Using happy and uplifting colours adds an extra layer of positivity and vibrancy to the collection, which can enhance the overall mood and atmosphere for viewers.
