Head Above Water

Head Above Water, is part of a collection of whale paintings inspired by their migration heading north to breed, before the mothers and their calves return later in the year. Sighting whales is captivating. I’ve had countless uplifting experiences glimpsing a waterspout, spectacular breaches, tail slap, or a fin waving. I find it hard to draw myself away and wanted to bring this sense of play and awe to life on canvas using gestural layers of paint and texture against a subtle blue sky.
